Below there are three postings about our journey from Sweden to Morocco and back. It took place June-August 2011. We drove 12,000 km through 14 countries. It was a great trip and we can really recommend it!
At the end of April 2008 we left Sweden and started our long journey. With our four kids, our plan was to drive from Sweden to India. If everything went well, we wanted to continue to South-East Asia. But one step at the time.
As it turned out, everything went very well, and we made it all the way to SE Asia. We drove 60,000 km through 37 countries in 16 months. It was an amazing journey! We returned to Sweden in July 2009, full of memories from our fantastic adventures.
The travelers: Ola Ringdahl, Nina Ringdahl and our four children Temba (born 2000), Disa (2003), Tinna (2005) and Atlas (2007).
Our vehicle was a Land Rover Defender 130, which had been rebuilt into a station wagon and equipped for our long expedition.
Our Land Rover is a Defender 130 which has been rebuilt into a station wagon by Foley Specialist Vehicles in the UK. It has also been extended to allow maximum loading capacity necessary for a long expedition. We have been very involved in designing the vehicle. There is a roll cage to ensure safety in case of an accident. The suspension has been strengthened and tear plate has been fitted to the bonnet, to the sides and on the floors inside the vehicle. The seats have been rearranged to seat 2 adults and 4 children, with three-point safety belts for everybody. We have fitted air-conditioning, a large roof rack with a family size roof top tent (Eezy-Awn of course), shelves for luggage, fridge, 40 litre water tank with external tap, extra lights (internal and external), extra power sockets throughout the vehicle, Mantec snorkel, A-bar with spotlights, sand ladders, high-lift jack, navigation compass, locks on everything, security mesh on all windows in the rear, and two spare wheels. Just to mention a few alterations out of very many. The engine (TD5 turbodiesel) and clutch were new when we started the journey. The vehicle is originally from the year 2000.
